Why Burn Wood?

Fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) contain carbon that has been trapped underground for many years, and when they are burned this carbon is released into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming and climate change. Fossil fuels are also limited in supply, with oil production now at or near its all-time peak, after which supplies will inevitably decline.

Wood-fuel is a form of low-carbon energy, because the carbon released when it is burned is not derived from fossil fuels. Instead, it has been captured from the atmosphere as CO2 by growing trees, and incorporated in their wood. Therefore, when the wood is burned, the carbon that was removed from the atmosphere is released back into it, ready for other plants to absorb and use in their growth

As well as reducing CO2 emissions, using local wood-fuel can reduce imports of fossil fuels, so improving the country's energy security.

Why choose OUR logs..?

Seasoning

Firewood should always be seasoned before use. Our firewood is cut and split into max 18” lengths and then stored in undercover to season for a minimum of 12 months

This ensures that the rain is kept off but still lets the sun and wind maximise the seasoning of the logs over the summer. Once seasoned the logs are moved inside, to ensure they stay dry for the winter months.

Moisture Content

For logs to be efficient they need to be seasoned until the moisture content is down to a minimum of 30% (some fresh cut timber is as much as 60%). If it is too high, then the heat is used to burn off the moisture instead of radiating. Not only this but if the moisture content is not below 30% it will increase smoke and creosote deposits in your chimney or flue.

All our hardwood logs have an average moisture content of 20-25%.
